BlueJam out on the street – B Jamba is our successful community samba band which is now in demand for festivals and parades all over the county. We also add horns, dragons, and various costume ideas to suit the occasion
We are a friendly group of people of all ages. We have been going now off and on for about 8 years, but have really taken off in the last three years. Our main group of drummers are at secondary school with a few younger players and an enthusiastic group of adult drummers.
Most of us live in Penrith but some people travel over an hour to get to rehearsals.
At rehearsals we go over the beats and practice moving and playing at the same time.
We mostly write our own beats so they are a mix of various samba styles we have heard other bands play and homemade Cumbrian ideas.
You don’t have to be experienced to join – you can learn on the job.
We have a history of different leaders all with their own style and energy – including Ben Parkinson, Mark Park, Paddy, Jilly Jarman, Charlie, Jen Leah, Jake Heald, Karen Barbier and currently our young leaders Josh Jackson and Ruby Slinger.
We rehearse on Tuesdays 6pm-7.30 at Ullswater Community College, Penrith.
We now have some regular bookings – Penrith May Parade, Penrith Winter Droving, Penrith Halloween, Kendal Torchlight, Ulverston Lantern Festival, and many other local village events and festivals like Solfest.
We have variable rates depending on the size of the event and how many players we are bringing.
We have a dragon – Pearl – who is a hit with audiences especially children.
Please get in touch to discuss fees, availability and what you would like us to do.
We can parade, do a static show, do workshops and a mix of performance/workshop.
We also deliver sessions for schools and youth and community groups – even playgroups!
B Jamba at Kendal Torchlight 2013. We also played 2014, 2015, 2016 (when we won best walking band) and are playing this year too!
