Lawrence Leith is a self-taught instrument designer and maker. Brought up in Cumbria and a BlueJam participant from the age of 12, Lawrence started experimenting with making musical sound-makers from an early age.
He went to Dartington College of Art to study fine art and was introduced to the gamelan there.
Back in Cumbria he has been involved in groups delivering sessions with the Cumbrian gamelan from 2011, researching into traditional javanese music and composing his own.
He has made a set of gangsa metallophones, a trompong and a gong kemodong which BlueJam is currently using to take into schools, festivals and community settings.
