This year the performance will be in the revamped small theatre at Rheged and feature group and individual performances from each school with a Big Sing involving everybody at the beginning and end.
J Frisco, a talented female improvising jazz trio from Leeds, will be contributing electronic and live band sounds to the mix.
The theme of the performance is back to back : face to face : side by side.
We invite you to use these visual, verbal and dramatic concepts as a way to provoke thought about a curriculum project you are working on, a school issue or in any creative way.
Each school will have a performance slot of up to 15 minutes. The performance can include a song with soloists and a chorus that everyone can join in with; drum patterns, poems and choral speaking; video and still images on the screen. We will provide the expert help, the children the creative ideas, J Frisco can provide optional, amazing soundscapes.
If you’ve not been involved before – BACKGROUND:
BlueJam has been delivering part of the Cumbria Music Education Hub’s Singing Strategy and performance development programme for Cumbria for the past ten years.
We have had successful performances involving up to 22 primary and secondary schools each year at UCC’s theatre, Penrith Leisure Centre, Penrith Alhambra Cinema, Lanercost Priory and Rheged IMAX theatre.
The projects have been based around individual and group singing and always include elements of songwriting, instrumental accompaniment and soundscapes, video and still artwork and movement.
Feedback from schools has highlighted the value of this approach in enthusing a wider range of students by offering a mix of activities, embedding basic musicianship skills across the whole group and developing advanced musicality in individuals while encouraging a creative, child-centred approach to cross-media performance.
Each year we vary the design of the project while keeping these elements integral to the work.
