BlueJam Young Music Leaders

Megan, Marieke and Nathan at BlueJam's first gathering Jan 2014

BlueJam has been running a Young Music Leader and training programme since 2005. However the latest group of young leaders started out like this.....

A small group of young people who had been in a Songwriting group run by Jilly at UCC for Transition Choir singers has been meeting since Autumn Term 2011 at BlueJam's new Space at Mostyn Hall, Friargate.

What we did: mainly write songs together each week in a relaxed way and on our own terms. We also went over to Woodhorn Colliery Museum for a songwriting day with Bewcastle Music Club and Alnwick Creative Music Club on November 11th, plus to Hexham Queens Hall in February 2013.

We had a Songwriting Day on November 3rd with Tom Leah and Mike Woodward to create songs for the Coronation Garden Opening on December 1st.

A group of committed and talented young musicians have been meeting with Jilly to arrange and write music for Penrith Schools Transition Choir and for NE Generation Olympic Anthem Project - Hadrian's Wall of Sound.

Random Words and Taste Of Perfection was performed at the Transition Summer Concert 2012.

Let My Feet Have Wings - a collaborative songwriting project between groups in Cumbria and the North East - was performed at the Sage Gateshead in the main hall on 4th July..

Stepping Stones Festival: Brampton 5&6 May

Stepping Stones

BlueJam has been working with Bewcastle Music Club and Community Choir who were the first act on stage on Saturday at 11am. The youngest local singers in the festival!
"I think at the festival there was plenty of things to experience, I got to perform on stage playing different instruments with Bewcastle Community Choir and Alnwick Creative Music Club . I also got to play with various folk musicians on the bodhran. Overall I thought it was a pleasant and enjoyable experience" Josh Jackson, Bluejam Young Music Leader
'Must sees' at the festival were established local artist Fiona Clayton and rising stars Alex and the Wander Band
